What is Mediation

An impartial professional assists both partners to negotiate their separation issues in a safe and structured process with the goal of helping you reach a mutually acceptable agreement. You and your partner both must agree to this process, and it is confidential. Mediation may help improve communication and reduce conflict between you and your partner.

Once an agreement is reached, the Mediator prepares a Memorandum of Understanding.

You can then have lawyers review it and turn it into a final Separation Agreement if you choose to do so.

What is Mediation-Arbitration (Med-Arb)?

In mediation-arbitration, a neutral third party that you both agree to work with facilitates your discussion through the issues at hand with the goal of assisting you in reaching a resolution. If there are issues that you cannot resolve through the initial mediation, the Mediator-Arbitrator will then use the authority you granted them to make legally binding decisions. Mediation-Arbitration is a good option for former couples who may need a third-party decision maker to get them to a guaranteed resolution relatively quickly.
